The Anpassungslehrgang

The Anpassungslehrgang (Anpassungslehrgang — an adaptation course) is a full school-based training that brings your qualification up to German standards — it includes a practical placement at a healthcare facility.

Advantages: thorough preparation, plenty of hands-on practice. Disadvantages: longer duration (from several months to more than a year) and higher costs, partly due to living expenses during the program.

The Kenntnisprüfung

The Kenntnisprüfung (Kenntnisprüfung — a knowledge exam) is a practical-oral examination before the competent authority.

Advantages: faster recognition and much lower costs. Disadvantages: demanding — without solid preparation it is hard to pass.

Which path is best for whom?

The choice depends on your prior qualification, your time, your budget and your goal.

• Experienced MTRs with extensive practice → usually the Kenntnisprüfung (saves time and money).
• Those with little specialized experience → often the Anpassungslehrgang (comprehensive training).
